These days it seems like pessimism and negativity are permanent fixtures of daily life. As common as it is, who wants that? Why live your life feeling miserable when you can go through your days with a much brighter outlook on existence? All it requires is an attitude adjustment that you can apply.
In this article, I want to look at seven tips that make us more optimistic.
Relaxing is a pre-requisite to any endeavor or effort.
When you are tense, you don’t give yourself a chance to succeed, and you feel even worse when things don’t go as planned. Relaxation opens the doors to success, wellness, and health. Being relaxed allows you to relieve stress even when things are hectic and fast-paced.
When you start to feel like you have too much to do, too much pressure, too much to worry about; just stop and take a nice refreshing deep breath. Drink a glass of water. Take another deep breath. Just imagine your worries melting away in a cold, rushing stream. Mentally toss out your worries one by one. Take deep breaths until you feel better.
Laughter is joy; laughter is enjoyment. It’s impossible to be angry or sad or feel anything but happy when laughing. The best is when you can enjoy the company of a friend and tell each other jokes so that you both can laugh. Another great way to bring yourself to laugh is by finding funny videos on you tube, reminiscing on amusing things from the past or reading jokes.
Laughter also helps you to relax.
- Hug your loved ones
Hugging is good for your immune system, your nervous system, your health, and mental well-being and it brings you closer to those you love. Hug more freely and see how your optimism in life increases tenfold.
Working out causes the release of endorphins. Even if you don’t see fat loss results, exercising will make you feel better and can help you avoid depression. You will automatically achieve a more positive outlook on life, and thus you will find it easier to feel optimistic.
- Visit friends and family
The more direct social contact we have with people we hold dear, the easier it is to feel supported and appreciated in life. With technology, we often have the tendency to rely on contact via texting or over the internet, but a face to face chat makes us feel human and truly connected. This translates to better feelings of overall well-being and more optimism.
- Take time for yourself
If you are feeling stressed and finding it hard to be positive about your lot in life, try to take the time just to be alone. Let your thoughts clear. Take deep breaths. Then find something you enjoy doing, and do it until you feel better. You may like to read, go for walks, work out at the gym, spend time with your pet, write poetry, play a musical instrument, craft, take a candlelit bath, the possibilities are endless. The point is simply to take time out to be by yourself and to sort your thoughts out, and be at peace.
- Pick yourself up
If you feel bad, or something doesn’t go as expected, accept that you feel bad. Don’t try to deny your feelings. Simply go through it. See what you can learn from the experience. Then, just let go of it and move on to brighter horizons.
A positive outlook is a goal to work on for one’s entire life. No matter how optimistic you think you are, you can always learn more.
