A few years ago, I lived in a country where I expected a different candidate to win the elections. When he did not, there was a lot of anxiety in the country. What direction would the country go with this new change, -was the question, everyone was asking?
This past election has left many people anxious. The words used stirred up a lot of emotions.
This has left many people anxious and depressed and taken away their happiness.
How can you cope with your anxiety and move on?
The first thing I would request you to do is pray
Ask God to give direction to the new leadership. Prayer will calm you and make you less upset.
When you pray, remember that God loves you.
Did you know that God identifies with you when you are suffering and hurt? When people say hurtful things about you, remember that God cares. You are special to him. God created you just the way you are.
There was a song in the 1960’s called ‘What color is God’s skin?’ The lyrics went: “I say its black, brown, yellow its red it is white -and everyone’s the same in the good lord’s site.”
When God made people different, he wanted to add variety and beauty to his creation. That’s why God performs miracles to all people who need one equally. All mankind is equal in God’s site.
Many people will be surprised when they die, because when they meet God, he will be a Black Man.
Ask God to give you good friends
Not everyone is mean and unkind and wants to hurt you or say upsetting stuff. Friends are a gift from God. I personally love people and love having all sorts of friends from various backgrounds. They add great value to my life, and I add value to them. Don’t break up your friendship because they voted for a different candidate than you did. At the end of the day, you may have different political views, but there may be other values and fun stuff that you share.
Speaking to your children
I have many friends with young children; the challenge is how you explain the things that were said during the campaign that are against the values you want to teach your kids. Continue to train your kids in the way of the Lord Jesus. It is that simple. Instill in them values that will make them great citizens in the future.
Talk to your friends
Talking is therapeutic. It allows you to let your feelings out and listen to others as well. Spend more time with people who are positive and hopeful. Individuals, who say, the world is ending, will only make you feel more dread and down. Remain positive and optimistic.
Focus on your hobby
If you like painting, reading, swimming or whatever it is; focus on that. Let your hobby take you to that place where your mind feels relaxed and peaceful.
Laughter has a healing element about it. There is plenty of comedy on YouTube that has nothing to do with politics. Enjoy some of it, -it will make you feel alive.
It will pass
America is new and different with the new elections. Eventually, you will get used to all the changes that will come. With time, your anxiety will get less and less. Having lived in different countries and seen several elections, I know time is the best healer.
